Beyond Pathology: Understanding the Deeper Roots of Addiction with TJ Woodward, Recovery Expert
Addiction is often framed primarily as a disorder to be managed, leaving many clinicians focused on symptoms rather than the deeper human experience beneath them. In this engaging webinar, bestselling author and recovery expert TJ Woodward invites participants to explore a new lens for understanding addiction that moves beyond pathology and into awareness, compassion, and connection.
Drawing from the Conscious Recovery approach, this presentation explores how addiction is often rooted in trauma, shame, disconnection, and the identities individuals formed in response to early life experiences. Rather than viewing addiction as who someone is, participants will examine how addiction is something a person has developed in response to pain. Through this shift in perspective, clinicians can begin to support clients in questioning limiting beliefs, reconnecting with their inherent worth, and cultivating deeper healing.
Attendees will gain practical insights into how awareness, compassionate curiosity, and identity exploration can complement traditional treatment approaches. This webinar offers an empowering framework that supports both clinicians and clients in moving beyond symptom management toward authentic transformation and lasting recovery.
