CADTP will grant reciprocity to a SUD counselor who meets or exceeds the following criteria:
1. The counselor must have been previously certified or registered by one of the certifying organizations (CO) approved by the Department of Health Care Services (listed on DHCS website), or a certifying organization previously recognized by DHCS (Within six months of that CO no longer being recognized).
2. Counselors whose certification is current (unexpired) may apply for CADTP certification without requiring testing provided their certification meets all eligibility criteria specified for the SUDCC certification, i.e. exam equivalency, SUD educational hours, and required hours of actual work experience. Registrants may also apply and will maintain their original registration date as they cannot exceed the five-year period as required by regulations.
3. Counselors who have been previously certified by one of the certifying organizations approved by the Department of Health Care Services, where their certification has lapsed (expired), can apply for CADTP
4. Counselors who have been certified or licensed in another state, where their certification or license is current may apply for CADTP certification without requiring testing provided their certification or license meet or
When a candidate is granted reciprocity their certification expiration date will expire on the same date that their current certificate expires with the certifying organization transferring from. Transfer Prior to Expiration
To transfer prior to expiration you will need:
- Signed Uniform Code of Conduct; CADTP Code of Ethics
- Copy of your State ID or Driver License
- Copy of your current certification
- Reciprocity Form Completely filled out and signed
For those who are certified and have expired less than two years, you will need:
- Signed Uniform Code of Conduct; CADTP Code of Ethics
- 40 Hours Minimum of SUD Continuing Education, dated within 2 years of your expiration/application, and includes 3 hours of Ethics and Confidentiality (may be combined in one training);
- Copy of your State ID or Driver License;
- Copy of
previous certification showing expiration date less than two years old; - Payment for renewal fee
- Renewal Form AND Reciprocity Form Completely filled out and signed.
If your certification has been expired for more than two years, you will need to apply for certification as a new candidate, starting with the exam application.
For those who are registered and have not passed their 5-year registration period, you will need:
- Signed Uniform Code of Conduct; CADTP Code of Ethics
- 6 hours of Ethics and Confidentiality (may be combined in one training);
- Proof of progress towards certification within the last year, i.e. unofficial transcripts from an AOD accredited College or a letter form an SUD employer
- Copy of your State ID or Driver License;
- Copy of
previous registration; - Payment for renewal fee
- Renewal Form AND Reciprocity Form Completely filled out and signed.
